Size my store images for me

Publishing to the Chrome Web Store needs a set of images at exact sizes. A small promo tile at 440 by 280. A marquee at 1400 by 560. Screenshots at 1280 by 800 or 640 by 400. Each with its own file size limit.

None of that is difficult. It is just fiddly, and fiddly is what stops people finishing.

A customer who published this week ended up in Paint cropping images by hand to get them accepted. In his words: it is not that the media is hard, it is that you reach the submission screen, realise you need a 440 by 280 tile, and quietly stop there.

What this would do:

Take any image you upload and produce every size the store asks for, cropped sensibly rather than squashed.

Warn you before submission if something is over the file size limit, instead of letting the store reject it.

Show you what each image will look like at its final size.

This is mechanical work. The tool should just do it.

Generating the visuals themselves, rather than resizing what you already have, is a bigger question and worth its own card.
